Termite Information

Termite Services
The most common termite pest species in Texas are subterranean termites. These can be found throughout Texas and surrounding states. Adult termites are dark-brown to blackish in color and measure about 3/8 inch-long. You will sometimes see “swarmers” of these termites. This means they are in reproductive stages. The job of reproductive termites is to mate and start new colonies. Termites in these swarms may or may not have wings, since their wings often are shed shortly after flight. Swarming termites are often confused with ants but can be distinguished by two simple characters.

Termites lack the “pinched” waist of ants. Also, termite wings are equal in length, compared to ants that have longer front wings. Termites swarms can occasionally, enter homes through open doors, windows or cracks and small openings. If you find a termite swarmer indoors, this is a very reliable signal of infestation. Termite reproduction can occur throughout the year, but are most common between the months of February and May in Texas. So if you see termites in your home or in your yard, its time to call Tactical Pest Services for termite services.

I just found termites in my yard. Does my house need to be treated?

Not necessarily, but we highly recommend an inspection. In Texas, termites are common in the soil wherever wood is to be found. Most yards, especially those in older neighborhoods, will support termites. But we have found termites in newer neighborhoods in McKinney, Frisco, Plano and surrounding areas. While termites are usually more abundant in some areas, chances are good that your yard has termites. Finding termites in a fence, woodpile or other landscape timbers, does not necessarily mean that your home needs to be treated, but it should alert you to the presence of termites around your home and consider having a professional investigate further. It might also be a good time to have a prevention treatment. Remember, its much less expensive to prevent termites than it is to fix the problems they cause to your home.

Hollow tubes constructed from soil or other organic material climbing up a foundation of your home is a sign of termite activity reaching your home and it means you should get a professional termite services inspection. Always keep soil and debris, such as wood mulch, stacked wood or other wood debris away from the foundation of your home. This reduces the chance of termite entry and makes it easier to inspect your home for termite signs. If you suspect termites, it’s a good idea to have Tactical Pest Services’ termite services.
